About the Role

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Engagement Worker plays a vital role in engaging and developing relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who face significant barriers to accessing services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in assertive street outreach activities to connect with clients and provide support.
  • Act as an advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, particularly those who are homeless and/or have complex health and social wellness needs.
  • Provide harm reduction education, advocacy, referral, and support services to clients to promote safer use and disposal of injecting equipment.
  • Link individuals into appropriate ongoing community services, including culturally specific, mental health, social support, and health services.

Requirements
  • Must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in a field such as Aboriginal health, community development, or social work.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Aboriginal health and culture, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with the client group.
