Salary

An attractive salary is on offer, commensurate with the Parliamentary Executive Level 1 classification, which could be negotiated with the successful candidate. Based on industry standards and location, the estimated annual salary for this role is around $140,000 to $170,000.

About the Role

The DPS seeks professionals in workplace relations, performance, or conduct to lead a small team and provide expert advice. As an Assistant Director, you will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (Protected/Restricted) security clearance. Our ideal candidates will have experience in one or more of the team's responsible HR areas: workplace relations, performance, or conduct. A tertiary qualification in human resource management or law is desirable but not required.

You will be expected to:

  • Provide high-quality specialist advice to senior management, and technical advice and education to staff on a broad range of employment issues, complex workplace relations matters, relevant legislation, and agreements.
  • Identify, design, and develop innovative strategies to improve departmental outcomes when managing complex sensitive people matters, staff engagement, and workplace consultation.
  • Represent the department in dealings with unions, tribunals, external jurisdictions, and other stakeholders to avoid disputes or achieve positive outcomes and resolutions.
  • Assist and support the research, development, management, and implementation of enterprise agreements, HR Policies, and employment contracts, ensuring compliance with relevant laws, processes, and better practice.
  • Lead, motivate, and gain the commitment of others in achieving a workplace relations focus responsive to contemporary issues and changes in workplace practices.
  • Develop and maintain productive stakeholder relationships, liaise and effectively negotiate with key stakeholders including senior management, staff, industrial organisations, and external agencies.
  • Prepare written material including executive briefs and corporate documentation for review by senior staff in a fast-paced environment.

You will also be responsible for leading, motivating, and gaining the commitment of others in achieving a positive performance and conduct focus responsive to contemporary issues and changes in workplace practices.
