Position Overview

We are in search of a committed professional for a newly established position within this vibrant family-run agricultural enterprise. This role involves collaborating with a dynamic team and the proprietors to oversee and optimize the performance of their dryland and irrigated cropping operations. Your contributions will enable the owners to concentrate on strategic business growth rather than being encumbered by daily operational tasks.

The agricultural enterprise spans four properties across 3,700 acres, featuring winter and summer cropping across 2,200 acres of fertile land. The summer crops, which are the most profitable, include Corn, soybeans, mung beans, and sorghum, while winter crops consist of various cereals. The region enjoys favorable coastal weather, dependable rainfall, and rich soil types, creating optimal conditions for producing high-yield, premium-quality crops. The use of modern, top-tier John Deere machinery and extensive infrastructure ensures effective management, including seven advanced spray irrigation systems, such as lateral and pivot systems equipped with direct injection for fertigation.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will have the thrilling opportunity to manage and supervise the daily cropping operations while maintaining the modern, GPS-equipped machinery fleet. Your expertise in overseeing these operations, along with staff and equipment management, will be vital for ensuring efficient operational schedules. Additionally, your insights will be valued in shaping the strategic direction of the overall cropping enterprise. We are looking for someone knowledgeable in managing high-yield summer and winter crops, chemical application, and agronomy.

Compensation Package

The employers recognize the significance of this role within their cropping enterprise and are pleased to offer a competitive compensation package, which includes a negotiable salary and an incentive scheme. You will have the option to choose between two exceptional family residences: a newly built four-bedroom, two-bath home or a recently renovated four-bedroom, two-bath home located on the property.

Candidate Profile

We are seeking a trustworthy, dependable, and honest individual. This hands-on position requires you to perform all on-farm responsibilities while keeping the owners informed of all activities and ensuring staff engagement and mentorship. You will be viewed as a collaborator within this business, working alongside the owners.

Strong communication skills are essential, as you will provide updates to the owners on all undertaken activities and regularly interact with consultants, suppliers, and agronomists. You should be ambitious and continuously seek new challenges. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work and is willing to assume a high level of responsibility and ownership for the success of the property.

Ideal Qualifications

The ideal candidate is a highly motivated individual with a passion for agriculture and a minimum of five years of experience in managing intensive summer and winter cropping, as well as:

  • HC license (preferred) and Chemical certificate
  • Extensive machinery operation experience and strong mechanical skills
  • Proficiency with technology
  • Attention to detail, along with strong communication, organizational, and time management abilities
  • Business acumen complemented by leadership and staff management skills
