Job Description

As a seasoned leader, you will play a pivotal role in driving operational excellence and safety within our Central Queensland rail networks. This is an exceptional opportunity to lead a high-performing team and shape the future of rail services.

With a proven track record of leadership in large-scale logistics or heavy industrial organisations, you will be responsible for ensuring operational and safety standards are upheld, while managing budgets and implementing business strategies to improve train control solutions.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to thrive under pressure and manage competing priorities. A strong understanding of both above and below rail control is essential for success in this position.

Key Responsibilities :
  1. Champion a 'We Know Safe, We Choose Safe' safety culture, ensuring the highest standards in health, safety, and well-being across operations.
  2. Lead and coach a high-performance team to achieve business objectives and foster positive work and customer relationships.
  3. Contribute to the development and implementation of train control strategies and change management initiatives.
  4. Effective labour resource management including workforce planning, succession planning, performance management, leave management as well as competency and capability development aligned to the overall business goals, objectives and train control strategy.
  5. Manage and mitigate impact of events through coordination of emergency response and recovery efforts.
  6. Analyse data, identify opportunities and establish plans for continuous improvement in safe working, business processes and systems / technology and collaborate to implement plans.
Required Skills & Qualifications :
  • Proven line leadership experience in large-scale logistics or heavy industrial organisations (mandatory).
  • Safeworking Theory Qualification (highly regarded).
  • An understanding of both above and below rail control will be essential for success in the position.
  • A minimum of Certificate IV / Diploma in Frontline Management or equivalent (preferred).
  • Strong leadership skills, including team coaching, safety management, and change management.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and influencing abilities.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure and manage competing priorities.
  • Experience in workforce development and succession planning.
  • Knowledge of train control operations, planning, and safe working systems (or ability to learn).
  • Resilient with the ability to analyse complex information and solve problems collaboratively.
