Strategic Communications Consultant

Key Responsibilities:

We are seeking an experienced communications professional to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to shape and deliver communication strategies that enhance our reputation, strengthen community engagement, and support organisational priorities.

The Role:

In this pivotal position, you will play a key part in shaping and delivering effective communication initiatives. You will drive the development and implementation of campaigns and programs that align with our organisational goals, ensuring consistent and impactful messaging.

Working closely with internal stakeholders, you will design and deliver targeted initiatives, manage media relations, and take responsibility for our digital presence — including oversight of our website and social media platforms.

  • Drive integrated communication and engagement strategies.
  • Provide informed strategic advice and practical support to strengthen our communications and community profile.
  • Enhance visibility through targeted media campaigns and proactive media engagement.
  • Monitor digital performance and adapt strategies to meet community expectations.
  • Support community events and key initiatives when required.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Communications, Journalism, or a related field (or significant experience).
  • Strong expertise in strategic communication, stakeholder engagement, and media relations.
  • Proven ability to deliver impactful messaging across digital and traditional platforms.
  • The ability to manage communication challenges in high-pressure situations.
  • Local Government experience is desirable but not essential.
