Engineering Excellence Leader for Cloud Infrastructure

About the Role:
As an Engineering Excellence Leader at Xero, you'll drive engineering excellence and build high-performing global engineering teams. This role will focus on ensuring a seamless integration of Syft Analytics, accelerating our mission to provide powerful insights. Syft Analytics is a leading cloud-based reporting, insights, and analytics platform for small businesses, accountants, and bookkeepers.
This position requires regular late hours due to your delivery team being based in South Africa. You'll need to be available from 5pm-8pm AEST, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for the first 12 months.
Key Responsibilities:
- You'll act as a role model and standard of excellence, driving high-performance engineering-wide processes and defining quality standards.
- You'll lead teams with strong leadership traits, lifting performance through goal clarity, feedback, removing barriers, coaching, and establishing a psychologically safe inclusive team culture.
- You'll be an expert in your space, sharing knowledge via talks, blog posts, or written documentation.
- You'll influence technical strategy, partnering closely with senior product and engineering leadership to ensure healthy product development and direction.
- You'll collaborate with engineers, product managers, designers, and stakeholders to align technical solutions with business needs.
- You'll share expertise to connect and support the growth of a culture of continuous empathy towards customers, making architectural decisions and guiding teams effectively.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in software engineering with a focus on system architecture and design, achieving engineering excellence at scale.
- Demonstrable knowledge, skills, and expertise leading data platform engineering teams from a technical perspective, including driving project goals, maintaining quality standards, and understanding relevant technologies, tools, and processes.
- Hands-on experience working in AWS and GCP.
- A focused mindset to champion a culture of experimentation, encouraging the team to test new ideas and technologies.
- Strong leadership and stakeholder traits, influencing others without authority and keeping Xero's values at heart.

The estimated annual salary for this role is $120,000-$180,000 AUD, depending on experience. However, these figures are estimates and may vary based on individual circumstances.
