About the Role

The Australian Public Service Commission is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Strategic Policy Advisor to join our team in the Commonwealth-State Engagement Branch. As an Assistant Director, you will play a critical role in developing strategic policy advice and assisting in a wide range of work to promote positive Commonwealth-State relations and progress key reform policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Policy Development: Provide high-quality written materials, analysis, and advice on complex matters relating to disability and NDIS reform, including Ministerial Submissions, Departmental briefings, Cabinet Submissions, minutes, and correspondence.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Identify, build, and maintain relationships within the department, the NDIA, Central Agencies, other Commonwealth Departments, and state and territory governments to progress the NDIS and broader disability system reform agenda.
  • Policy Paper Development: Lead the development of policy papers, governance papers, talking points, and briefing material to support engagement with states and territories.
  • Representation: Represent the Department at meetings with internal and external stakeholders, fostering positive relationships and articulating linkages and intelligence received from meetings.
  • Meeting Preparation: Prepare for, attend, and participate in multilateral and bilateral meetings with state and territory governments, as required.
  • Flexibility and Adaptability: Demonstrate responsiveness and flexibility in a fast-paced reform environment.
