Job Description

The Civil Engineer Manager oversees the daily operations of the Engineering Division, ensuring that all projects and activities are completed efficiently and effectively.

Key responsibilities include managing staff, consulting engineers, and contractors; reviewing and approving plans and specifications; conducting site inspections; and coordinating with City departments and external agencies.

The Civil Engineer Manager must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to analyze complex technical issues and make informed decisions.

RequirementsEducation and Experience Guidelines

A bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited university is required, along with five years of increasingly responsible professional civil engineering experience, including two years of managerial or supervisory experience.

License and Certification Requirements

Registration as a Professional Engineer by the California Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors is mandatory. A valid class C California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record are also required.

  • City organization, operations, policies, and procedures
  • Principles and standards of municipal civil engineering programs
  • Principles and practices of administrative management
  • Design, construction, and management of public works engineering projects
Key Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for success in this role.
