Cultural Transition and Community Engagement Program


The Families in Cultural Transition (FICT) program is a settlement initiative designed to empower refugees and asylum seekers to take control over their lives. The program uses a strengths-based approach, focusing on individual, family, community, and cultural strengths.


The primary role of the FICT Facilitator is to form and deliver groups comprising 12-16 participants from refugee/asylum seeker backgrounds. They prepare tailored programs selecting activities most relevant to the needs, culture, and experience of group members. Facilitators also work closely with a co-facilitator and an assigned project officer to recruit participants, organize venues, catering, and childminding for groups.


Key Responsibilities
  1. Deliver FICT groups primarily on weekdays or evenings
  2. Work independently and collaboratively with a group co-facilitator
  3. Recruit participants from the refugee community, promoting the benefits of the program
  4. Organize venues, catering, and childminding for groups
  5. Prepare tailored programs based on group members' needs, culture, and experience

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Qualifications or extensive experience in education, adult education, social work, social science, community work, community welfare, health, or related fields
  • Understanding of key issues faced by refugees and asylum seekers during settlement
  • Strong connections with the refugee community from your language/cultural background
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English at an intermediate level and a fluent speaker/writer of a relevant community language
  • Availability for face-to-face training/selection
  • Membership of one of the specified community/language groups
