As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in shaping the future of our workforce.
Our People and Policy Branch is responsible for delivering strategic and operational workforce services that enable and enhance organisational capability.
We provide stewardship, support and services across various areas including integrity, conduct, property, security, performance management, rehabilitation management, recruitment, learning and development, inclusion and diversity, workforce planning and analytics, workplace relations, people support, culture and health, safety and wellbeing.
The People and Policy Branch is the front line of human resources (HR) for our organisation. We deliver timely and accurate responses to support our people across the country with a strong focus on customer service, capability uplift and innovative practices at every stage of the employee experience.
Our goal is to actively shape a future-ready workforce by attracting mission-aligned talent and increasing the footprint of our Entry Level Programs in critical roles.
As part of our team, you will be responsible for managing the full spectrum of employee-related functions to create a workplace where individuals feel supported, empowered and inspired to do their best work.
The key duties of this position include:
Workplace relations support and advice
- Providing advice on the application of our enterprise agreement, workplace policies and employment legislation.
- Overseeing complex industrial and employment condition matters and acting as the key liaison point between business areas and Unions that represent our employees.
Other key functions include:
- Playing a lead role in advising the executive and managing preparations for the next round of enterprise bargaining.
- Managing and supporting change consultation processes, National Consultative Committee Secretariat, workplace disputes, voluntary redundancy, HR Delegation and casual conversion assessment processes.
- Managing entitlements related to overseas deployments.
SES Support
Our team provides dedicated support and expert advice to the Senior Executive Service (SES) including managing recruitment and onboarding activities for SES vacancies, developing and implementing initiatives that enhance leadership effectiveness, performance, and accountability.
We also support key projects aligning to our organisation's goals and broader APS initiatives, including the SES100 initiative to increase First Nations representation, the APS Leadership Capability Framework, and the APS Reform agenda.
Recruitment Services
Our team oversees the provision of recruitment strategy and services to ensure contemporary practice and attraction strategies to recruit the right talent and build a diverse and capable workforce for our organisation.
We have a strong client-focused and collaborative approach to provide exceptional end-to-end recruitment services and support business areas in line with their tactical workforce planning.
Other key functions include:
- Leading the provision and presentation of data-driven workforce insights to inform strategic recruitment planning and support organisational reporting requirements.
- Overseeing the department's entry level programs to attract, develop and retain graduates and other entry level employees.
- Providing strategic insights and market analysis to determine how to identify and attract the right people for the right jobs.
- Leading implementation of the Recruitment Strategy and First Nations Workforce Strategy.
- Establishing strategic partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to deliver recruitment initiatives and projects that improve talent acquisition, employment pathways and early career development, ensuring our workforce is equipped with the skills and potential to succeed.
People Support Services
Our team manages essential support services and builds trusted relationships across the organisation to ensure HR services and support is provided to drive high performance.
We oversee specialised case management for performance, probation, attendance, behaviour, and rehabilitation to support the organisation's functionally diverse and geographically dispersed workforce.
