Principal Design Manager Job Description

This position is crucial for providing technical expertise and leading technical teams to develop and deliver the most appropriate technical solution for key water and wastewater projects in Queensland.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil or process-mechanical water infrastructure engineering, with experience in design and construction. They will also possess exceptional leadership abilities, including managing subcontractors and multidisciplinary teams.

We are looking for someone who can bring a can-do solution-focused attitude to our projects and has a strong understanding of D&C or alternative delivery projects. The successful candidate will also have advanced knowledge of water and wastewater services and the delivery environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate all multi-disciplinary activities and inputs by the technical team, including specialist inputs, to ensure an integrated technical solution.
  • Deliver outputs on time and to an appropriate quality.
  • Bring a solution-focused approach to project delivery.
  • Lead engineering projects and manage internal engineering disciplines as well as subcontractors.
  • Support delivery teams during design and construction, acting in a senior leadership and management role on projects.
  • Undertake internal technical reviews and verification checks on all aspects of water and wastewater projects.
  • Focus on the development of water and wastewater project delivery expertise, locally and across the business.
  • Identify opportunities and develop relationships with key utility clients and future water-focused clients in line with business strategies.
  • Assist in the pursuit and proposal phase of business development opportunities.
  • Contribute to proposal and bid development to support business development activities.
Qualifications:
  • Tertiary Qualification in relevant Engineering field along with CPEng and RPEQ (or ability to obtain).
  • At least 10 years civil or process-mechanical water infrastructure engineering experience – design and construction.
