Job Description

This key member of the Legal team will be responsible for ensuring that all legal functions are performed in accordance with the Water Act 1989 and other legal obligations to achieve operational and strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide specialist legal advice and services, including on powers, duties and functions under the Water Act 1989 (Vic)
  • Manage reviews of corporate policies and procedures
  • Provide advice on property matters including leases, licenses, easements and associated issues
  • Oversee and resolve contractual issues with suppliers challenging procurement terms
  • Manage preparation and completion of contracts for construction and other works
  • Assist in responding to Freedom of Information requests and privacy complaints and reviewing privacy impact assessments
Required Skills and Qualifications

A tertiary qualification in law and admission to practice as an Australian lawyer is essential. Additionally, a minimum of five years' post-admission experience, with at least three years practicing at a major law firm is required.

  • Expertise in drafting and interpreting commercial agreements, including leases and licenses
  • Experience handling privacy and freedom of information and other areas of compliance
  • Ability to provide legal advice concerning statutory interpretation, regulated businesses and property matters
  • Experience managing complex litigated claims, including providing direction to external legal providers
  • Knowledge and understanding of obligations under the Water Act, with experience in the Water industry being advantageous
