Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Careers Practitioner to join our team. As a key member, you will be responsible for providing personalized assistance with resumes, cover letters, job applications, and interview skills.

Main Responsibilities
  • Deliver one-on-one support for resume development, cover letter writing, and job application processes.
  • Counsel students on subject selection, post-secondary pathways, and career goals, empowering them to make informed decisions.
  • Participate in course selection processes for Years 9-11, raising parental awareness of post-secondary options and fostering a culture of academic excellence.
  • Develop and maintain Individual Career Action Plans (CAPs) for all students over 15 years, ensuring a tailored approach to their career aspirations.
  • Support Year 12 students by meeting with them individually twice a year to discuss their career plans and post-secondary applications, providing guidance and encouragement throughout the process.
  • Assist Year 12 students with the VTAC process, including submitting preferences, Change of Preference, and accepting offers, streamlining their transition to higher education or the workforce.
  • Provide expert advice on direct-entry TAFE and private provider applications, helping students navigate complex educational pathways.
  • Participate in the Morrisby Program and assist in its delivery for all Year 9 students, enhancing their career awareness and exploration skills.
  • Support work experience and Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) placements, ensuring seamless documentation and a smooth transition for students.
  • Contribute to the college Later Years Expo and other career-related events, promoting a culture of career development and community engagement.
  • Offer case management to students identified as at risk, providing personalized support and guidance to overcome challenges and achieve their goals.
  • Attend SSG meetings to support at-risk students, fostering a collaborative approach to student welfare and success.
  • Liaise with external agencies to ensure appropriate career and pathway support, building strong relationships with key stakeholders and partners.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to students exiting school (aged 15yrs and over), including six-month follow-up, supporting their transition into adulthood and further education or employment.
  • Complete Student Destination Data tracking of all exited students, including previous Year 12 cohorts, informing data-driven decision-making and improving student outcomes.
  • Provide staff with destination data and updates on student pathways, enhancing institutional knowledge and informing strategic planning.
  • Maintain accurate student records and reports in line with DET and school requirements, upholding the highest standards of record-keeping and confidentiality.
Required Qualifications and Skills
  • Certificate IV in Career Development or Graduate Certificate in Career Development Practice (or equivalent qualification).
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a dynamic team, fostering a positive and inclusive school culture.
