Institutional Biosafety Committee Member

The University of Tasmania is seeking an experienced Biotechnology Regulatory Expert to join our Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC). As a key member of the IBC, you will play a vital role in ensuring that all practices involving gene technology, biosecurity-regulated materials and biologically-hazardous materials are conducted in accordance with legislation, Australian Standards, codes of practice, licensing requirements, and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all practices are conducted in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Exercise independent judgement in relation to proposed dealings.
  • Provide advice and oversight of relevant policies and procedures.

About the Role:

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled and experienced Biotechnology Regulatory Expert to join our team. As a member of the IBC, you will work closely with other experts to ensure that all activities involving gene technology, biosecurity-regulated materials and biologically-hazardous materials are conducted safely and responsibly.

You will be required to prepare for, attend, and participate in meetings either in person or via videoconference. The IBC meets four times per year to consider applications and will review applications out of session when deemed appropriate by the chair.

Your Skills and Qualifications:

  • Degree in a relevant field such as science, law, or policy.
  • Proven experience in biotechnology regulation.
  • Strong understanding of relevant laws and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
