Job Overview:

A Compliance Specialist is responsible for providing expert advice and guidance to partners, lawyers, and business professionals on compliance matters. The role involves working closely with the global network of Compliance Managers and Officers to ensure that all offices and partnerships are compliant with local laws and regulations.

The Compliance Specialist will champion and lead the compliance function in their respective office or country, acting as a trusted advisor to Partners, fee earners, and business professionals. They will have in-depth knowledge of their legal industry and the firm's priorities, as well as expertise in business support processes.

  • Ensure that the partnership and offices are in compliance with local laws and regulatory rules.
  • Liaise with relevant regulatory bodies to ensure firm compliance on regulatory matters.
  • Design, develop, and implement preventive monitoring mechanisms to meet compliance objectives.
  • Lead local office efforts to create awareness of global policies and procedures and provide compliance advice and guidance.

In Relation To Our Gifts And Hospitality Policy:

  • Advise the team on queries relating to gifts and hospitality.
  • Be an advisor to the central compliance team on gifts and hospitality requiring central compliance approval.

Together With The HRC:

  • Implement, operate, and develop the compliance management system for the office, taking into account specific local requirements and legislation;
  • Identify compliance objectives for the office;
  • Monitor the development and implementation of mandatory risk and compliance training programmes;
  • Develop and/or implement new standardised compliance processes, rules, and regulations;
  • Develop and implement an effective system for communicating compliance topics; and
  • Develop a compliance culture and raise awareness of compliance issues and the firm's Compliance Policy.

Reporting Obligations:

  • Report promptly to the relevant stakeholders on serious compliance violations and propose action to prevent repeated violations;
  • Report every six months on compliance activities and compliance violations.

Key Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a Compliance professional or other relevant experience;
  • Ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders;
  • Good understanding of local legal profession regulations and law firms;
  • Good understanding of local anti-money laundering, anti-bribery, data privacy, and insider trading regulations.
