Property Claims Specialist

Your Role:
The primary purpose of this role is to produce high-quality work products on residential and commercial claims through prompt professional contact with customers and brokers.
This is an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a Claims Examiner - Property. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of property claims, analysing first reports, assessing claims in accordance with service level and quality requirements, and communicating with stakeholders via telephone and written correspondence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a portfolio of claims for property claims as allocated and analyse first report to determine nature of loss, coverage provided and scope of damage.
- Assess claims in accordance with service level and quality requirements and the General Insurance Code of Practice. This includes determining coverage, reserving within timeframes, making payments, responding to customer queries, providing updates, and requesting additional information as needed to manage a claim.
- Communication by telephone and written correspondence to brokers, claimants and others as required.
- Promptly and properly document all developments on claim workstation file.
- Take part in Claim Department and companywide training as required.
- Seek technical assistance in handling claims exceeding delegated authority.
- Respond to enquiries and escalations of matters from underwriters, brokers and customers, and work with underwriters, the Compliance Department and other departments of the company as needed.
- Exercise good judgement in reaching final disposition of claim by evaluating nature of loss, liability, damage, coverage provided and applicable limits.
- Effectively negotiate compromise settlements where appropriate.
