
Senior Governance Expert

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Governance Expert to join our Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee.
The successful candidate will provide independent assurance to the committee on various aspects of our operations, including compliance, risk management, fraud control, financial management, governance, implementation of our strategic plan, delivery program and strategies, and service reviews.
The ideal candidate will have recent and relevant experience in governance and management of complex organizations, preferably local government. They will also possess a professional qualification or membership, such as the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), CPA Australia (CPA), or Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA).
The committee meets quarterly, and the term of appointment is four years. The successful candidate will be paid in accordance with NSW Treasury's Prequalification Scheme: Audit & Risk Committee Independent Chairs & Members.
Essential Criteria
The successful candidate must demonstrate the following:
- A capacity to read and understand financial statements and the ethical requirements of government, including potential conflicts of interest.
- Functional knowledge in areas such as risk management, performance management, human resources management, internal and external auditing, financial reporting, accounting, management control frameworks, internal financial controls, governance, or business operations.
- A capacity to form independent judgments and willingness to constructively challenge or question management practices and information.
- A professional, ethical approach to the exercise of duties and the capacity to devote the necessary time and effort to the responsibilities of an independent member of an audit, risk, and improvement committee.
- Preparedness to undertake any training on the operation of audit, risk, and improvement committees recommended by the chairperson based on their assessment of the skills, knowledge, and experience of the independent member.
Desirable Criteria
The ideal candidate should also meet the following criteria:
- Extensive senior-level experience in governance and management of complex organizations, preferably local government.
- Possession of a relevant professional qualification or membership.
