Job Summary

Lead Governance and Risk Functions at a Regional Council

Responsibilities
  • Leadership Role: Oversee the governance, corporate risk, and compliance functions, ensuring high standards of governance and compliance.
  • Risk Management: Develop and implement effective risk management strategies, including enterprise risk management, business continuity, and disaster recovery plans.
  • Compliance and Governance: Manage and chair the Audit, Risk & Improvement Committee (ARIC), providing guidance on governance and compliance matters.
  • Insurance and Claims: Oversee the insurance portfolio and manage high-level claims.
  • Freedom of Information and Privacy: Act as the Public Officer, managing Freedom of Information (GIPA) and Privacy matters.
  • Governance Advice: Provide high-quality governance advice to the Executive, Managers, and Councillors.
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you will need:

  • Tertiary qualifications in governance, law, policy, risk management, or business (or be actively working towards completion).
  • Demonstrated experience in governance, legal, or administrative roles involving risk management practices.
  • A sound understanding of relevant legislation and the ability to interpret and apply statutory requirements with accuracy and confidence.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to engage effectively with staff, councillors, and community stakeholders.
