About the Team Leader Role

The Community and City Services Division prioritizes community needs, ensuring Melbourne remains a liveable, healthy and vibrant city.

Within this division, the Libraries, Recreation and Waterways Branch provides inclusive spaces, resources, services and programs that connect communities, support creative opportunities, and promote healthier lifestyles.

This is an opportunity to lead a team at one of Melbourne's most vibrant community hubs. Southbank Library at Boyd is a place where people connect, learn, create and feel at home — and we're looking for a dynamic leader to keep it thriving.

In this leadership role, you'll guide a team to deliver exceptional customer experiences, manage daily operations, and ensure the library is a safe, welcoming and inspiring space for all.

You are a community connector, comfortable with facilitating engaging library experiences that bring people together.

You may also be:

  • An organized problem-solver with the skills to manage daily operations while contributing to long-term planning and service improvement
  • A confident leader who inspires teams to deliver exceptional customer service and maintain vibrant community spaces

Tertiary qualification in Librarianship, Management, or a related discipline, or a minimum of five years of relevant professional experience.

Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships, partnerships, and networks with internal teams and external stakeholders.

Ability to provide advice on safety procedures, emergency response plans, and resolve complex customer behavior issues.

Experience in leading and managing staff in an operational environment.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
