Senior Commercial Counsel Role

This is a senior commercial counsel role within a rapidly growing national retailer.

You will be part of a high-performing in-house legal team that plays a central role in the strategic direction and day-to-day operations of the business.

The environment is fast-paced but supportive, and lawyers here enjoy strong collaboration without the pressure of billable hours.

You will have the opportunity to work directly with senior leaders across the business, advising on complex commercial matters and seeing the direct impact of your legal advice.

This role offers a rare mix of variety, autonomy, and influence.

As a senior commercial counsel, you will gain valuable exposure to a wide spectrum of legal matters spanning commercial contracts, consumer law, property, litigation, employment, and debt recovery.

Deepening your understanding of how a successful business operates, this breadth of work will sharpen both your legal and commercial skills.

Working in a high-trust, commercially minded environment where legal is seen as a business partner, not a roadblock, you will learn how to make sound commercial calls, manage risk effectively, and deliver pragmatic legal solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise on commercial disputes, including property and contract issues
  • Assist with debt recovery in collaboration with internal finance teams
  • Provide legal support on consumer law disputes and mediations
  • Draft and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including leases and Heads of Agreement
  • Support on employment law matters and internal compliance
  • Assist with litigation matters and liaise with external counsel as needed
  • Review and advise on property acquisitions and contracts of sale

Requirements:

  • Admitted as a solicitor in Australia with an unrestricted practising certificate
  • 6+ years' PQE in commercial law, with experience in property, litigation, consumer law, or debt recovery
  • Strong commercial acumen and a pragmatic, business-focused approach
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • A proactive attitude and the confidence to manage matters autonomously
