Salary: We are offering a competitive salary range of $120,000 - $180,000 per annum, commensurate with experience.

Job Description: As our new Chief Scientist in Biochemistry, you will lead a team of 30 scientists and support the strategy and operations of the department. Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparation and Proactive Management: Develop and manage the annual operating plan and financial budgets for the department.
  • Operational Results: Monitor and report on monthly operational results, prepare and submit detailed annual business plans for the department.
  • Change Management: Initiate and manage change to business processes, systems, technology, job roles, and department structures.
  • NATA/TGA/NPACC Compliance: Ensure all work practices and procedures comply with NATA/TGA/NPACC regulations.
  • Team Development: Support and facilitate the development of work team members' knowledge and skills.
  • Performance Feedback: Provide timely feedback and remove barriers to performance relative to expected standards.

About You: To be successful in this role, you will be a self-motivated people leader with excellent leadership and interpersonal skills. You will also demonstrate:

  • Diagnostics and Biochemistry Expertise: Diagnostic skills relating to Biochemistry and Special chemistry, with significant experience managing a highly automated laboratory and expert knowledge of quality assurance systems.
  • Laboratory Experience: Sound experience with laboratory-based analytical tasks, method validation and verification, as well as clinical result validation and interpretation.
  • Quality Assurance: Sound experience with routine internal quality control and external quality assurance procedures.
  • IT and Quality Systems: Solid grounding in pathology-based IT and quality systems.
  • WHS Policies: Well-versed on WHS policies and procedures in a laboratory environment.
  • Communication and Problem-Solving Skills: Exceptional communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Personal Motivation: Show commitment to achieving challenging goals by demonstrating a high level of personal motivation and application of expertise.
