Principal Lawyer

The Principal Lawyer is a key role within our legal team, responsible for providing expert legal advice and guidance to support the delivery of innovative projects across government.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic, pragmatic, focused, and accountable specialist legal advice and strategy across a range of commercial, ICT, and digital areas.
  • Lead complex commercial negotiations to ensure compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements and successful delivery of outcomes for major projects.
  • Advise, draft, review, and negotiate a range of documents and agreements including software and product acquisition/licensing, product development, intellectual property in information technology, digital transformation, and cloud service delivery.
  • Work with various stakeholders to interpret and distil complex legal issues in the preparation of contractual and other documentation to ensure statutory, ethical, probity, and other legal obligations are properly addressed.

Requirements:

  • Admitted as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of New South Wales and hold or be eligible to hold a current practising certificate as a solicitor.
  • Advanced analytical ability, lateral thinking, and problem-solving including an ability to apply legal principles in a practical way.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, interpersonal, and communication skills and a proven ability to work collaboratively and flexibly with key stakeholders across all levels to support optimal service delivery outcomes.
  • Client-focused team player with great initiative, who thrives managing competing deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Bachelor of Laws or equivalent degree qualification and a minimum of 6 years relevant post-qualification in one or more of the following areas in either private, in-house corporate, or government practice: Digital and Technology law, Corporate and Commercial law, Intellectual Property (IP) law, Information access and privacy law.
