At St John's Primary School, Lambton, we are seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team in January 2025. This is a permanent full-time position that offers a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students from Kindergarten to Year 6.

The Learning Support Teacher has a unique role in our school, ensuring each child has the opportunity to grow both academically and spiritually, and live a purposeful life. Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with the identification of students with special educational needs, consulting and collaborating with parents, colleagues, CSO personnel, and external providers, and facilitating referral and assessment procedures with Catholic Schools Office Student Support staff.
  • Delivering intervention, teaching students, and assisting teachers with curriculum differentiation, as specified by the Leader of Learning Support / Learning Support Coordinator.
  • Collaborating with class teachers and other relevant people to assist in the design, implementation, and monitoring and review of adjustments, as documented in the Personalised Plan (PP) or Learner Profile (LP).
  • Working collaboratively with other Learning Support personnel.
  • Contributing to the provision of staff professional development and parent education programs.
  • Liaising with relevant schools, particularly during transition periods.
  • Contributing to the preparation of documentation required under legislation, such as pre-enrolment documentation, and assisting in the preparation of submissions for the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD).
  • Supporting the development of inclusive learning environments.
  • Assisting in the implementation of programs and processes to support students with disabilities.
  • Assisting in building capacity of school staff in the area of Special Education.

This teacher will promote our school as a place of learning and excellence, in accordance with contemporary evidence-based learning and wellbeing principles, including digital learning. They will ensure the ongoing development and implementation of pedagogical practices that impact student learning outcomes.

Requirements
  • A clear understanding of and personal commitment to Catholic education and the mission of the Church through Catholic schools.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities (K-6).
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with school staff, CSO staff, and external stakeholders to establish productive partnerships and achieve educational outcomes for students.
  • Experience delivering professional learning for staff and parents.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively gather and utilise assessment data, and other relevant student data, to determine adjustments required for individual students and groups of students.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaboratively prepare Personalised Plans and Learner Profiles for students with disabilities.
  • Experience supporting student enrolment and transitions.
  • Working knowledge of Disability legislation and the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data.
  • Evidence of excellent organisational, interpersonal, and administrative skills.
Salary Information

The salary for this position is approximately $120,000 - $150,000 per year, based on NSW Enterprise Agreement 2023.
