About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Indigenous Education Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will provide educational counselling and support services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children and students across multiple schools.

The role involves participating in the development of activities, both in and out of school, designed to enhance the involvement in education of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families. This may include developing and undertaking support service programs tailored to meet the needs of individual schools, with the goal of encouraging the educational participation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children and students.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing educational counselling and support services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children and students
  • Developing and implementing support service programs to enhance educational participation
  • Establishing and maintaining links with out-of-school sources of information and support services to assist in the advancement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and students

A mandatory requirement for this role is holding a current Working with Children Check clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services. Additionally, it is a genuine occupational requirement that this position be filled by an Aboriginal person or a Torres Strait Islander person, as set out in Section 7 of the Anti Discrimination Act 1991.

In relation to administrative purposes, an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identified role requires verification of Aboriginality and/or Torres Strait Island heritage. This typically involves providing confirmation of one's Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent or acceptance by the relevant community. Applicants may need to provide documentation to support their claims.
