The role of a Police Liaison Officer is to facilitate communication between the local community and the police service. The successful candidate will work within the Townsville Police Divisions Districts, Crime Prevention and Engagement Unit (CPEU) who are committed to creating and improving working partnerships focused on prevention to deliver sustainable outcomes.
Key responsibilities include contributing to organisational understanding of First Nations cultures, assisting First Nations community members to access policing services, providing advice to QPS members on referral to other community services where necessary, and contributing to the supervision and co-ordination of the activities of the District Police Liaison group.
This position involves driving of police vehicles, wearing a Police Liaison Officer uniform and adherence to the QPS Code of Dress and Appearance. Successful applicants will be required to successfully complete the first available Police Liaison Officer Initial Employment Training Program.
Key Accountabilities:
- Contribute to organisational understanding of First Nations cultures
- Assist First Nations community members to access policing services
- Assist Police Officers to communicate effectively with cultural appropriateness
- Supervise and co-ordinate the activities of the District Police Liaison group
- Develop culturally appropriate initiatives to prevent and intervene in crime and disorder issues
- Promote partnerships with First Nations community service organisations
- Awareness of and compliance with Queensland Police Service human resource management policies
