
Coordinator (Police Liaison Officer) (First Nations)

You will work within the Townsville Police Divisions Districts, Crime Prevention and Engagement Unit (CPEU) who are committed to creating and improving working partnerships focused on prevention to deliver sustainable outcomes.
The team also plays a key role in community engagement activities across schools and other local and state government agencies, non-government agencies and stakeholders, aimed at educating and promoting the awareness of preventative behaviours.
The Cross-Cultural Liaison Unit (CCLU) forms part of the CPEU where you will work and provide support to officers, particularly in the prevention of crime involving multicultural and multifaith community groups, while working towards a safer community through connected and engaged relationships.

Your Key AccountabilitiesThe core capability requirements for this role are:
- Contribute to organisational understanding of First Nations cultures.
- Assist First Nations community members to access policing services and provide advice to QPS members on referral to other community services where necessary
- Assist Police Officers to communicate effectively with cultural appropriateness to members of the local community by providing advice on First Nations local customs and protocols
- To contribute to the supervision and co-ordination of the activities of the District Police Liaison group
- Advise and assist Police Liaison Officers and Police Officers in identifying crime and disorder issues and develop culturally appropriate initiatives to prevent and intervene in them
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with First Nations community leaders by participating in meetings, forums or festivals, and ensure the input of community concerns in crime prevention issues.
- Promote partnerships with First Nations community service organisations and advise and assist community members and community groups to positively contribute to these partnerships.
- Enhance awareness of the need to balance cultural, policing and community needs by Police Officers and community members
- Be aware of and facilitate compliance with Queensland Police Service human resource management policies, including workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination legislation
- Conduct workplace assessment for relevant subordinate staff in relation to Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC) and for HRM functions including performance management
- Contribute to First Nations Cultural Capability training and orientation of police officers and staff members within the District

- This position involves driving of police vehicles. The occupant of this position is required to hold a "C" class driver's license or have the ability to acquire a driver's license.
- The interview process may involve a written exercise.
- This position requires wearing a Police Liaison Officer uniform and adherence to the QPS Code of Dress and Appearance.
- This position requires working to a set roster and may also involve weekend work and shift work to attend local festivals, and forums and to meet the policing needs of the local area - Shift penalties and overtime may apply.
- Successful applicants will be required to successfully complete the first available Police Liaison Officer Initial Employment Training Program. This program is run at the Queensland Police Service Academy, Oxley. Meals, accommodation and travel will be paid for by the Service, but participants must be available to leave their local area for 2 weeks to complete the training
