The National Centre for Reconciliation Practice at Swinburne University of Technology is seeking a PhD candidate to work on a specific project on the Australian reconciliation movement.

We are flexible about the discipline the project is based in, including Indigenous studies, history, public policy, politics, education, and psychology.

The successful candidate will be closely integrated with key industry partners, including Reconciliation Australia.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Undertaking a detailed review of the literature in the field and developing an understanding of the existing literature and opportunities for new research activities
  • Developing a research plan in collaboration with the supervisory team
  • Data collection
  • Working independently to undertake research activities
  • Preparing written and oral research reports throughout the program to explain research activities and outcomes
  • Preparing and submitting publications from research activities to peer-reviewed journals and conferences
  • Preparing and submitting milestone reports and thesis to meet the requirements of the University's HDR Training Policy
  • Working within a wider multidisciplinary research team that includes end users, industry partners, and researchers and collaborators from across the University

To be eligible for this opportunity, applicants must:

  • Have analytical thinking, data analysis, and critical problem-solving skills
  • Have excellent time management skills and the ability to work independently
  • Be able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary research team
  • Have evidence of good oral and written communication skills
  • Applicants with publications will be highly regarded
  • Meet Swinburne's entry requirements for the Doctor of Philosophy
  • Be in a position to commence the PhD candidature in early 2022
