Swinburne's Design Factory Melbourne (DFM) and the nandin Innovation Centre at Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) are seeking a highly motivated PhD researcher to join their joint Swinburne DFM-ANSTO Applied Innovation PhD program.
Research FocusThe successful candidate will conduct an in-depth literature review and primary research to explore areas of translational science, innovation management, and innovation practices to address societal needs. The research will focus on improving links between research and industry to facilitate technology development and implementation.
Research AreasThe PhD project can be undertaken in one of the following areas:
- Innovation processes: Design methods for commercial application of science, end-to-end user experience, industry-engaged projects, and human-centered design.
- Innovation mindset: Design for science knowledge diffusion, design for Indigenous science, design collaboration behavior for innovation.
- Innovation community and culture: People talent and responsible innovators, innovation ecosystems for deep tech translation, value and impact of innovation, and deep tech and social innovation.
- Innovative space and environment: Impact of space and environment on innovation mindsets, processes, teams, and culture, designing physical and digital spaces for innovation practices, and designing artefacts and spatial affordances for motivating innovative mindsets.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A first-class or 2A honours, or a Masters by research in design, innovation, or technology fields and meet Swinburne's entry requirements for the Doctor of Philosophy.
- Prior research or practice experience in one of the four innovation topic areas.
- Analytical thinking and critical problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent time management skills and self-directed working.
- Ability to collaborate with diverse, multi-disciplinary stakeholders.
- Evidence of good oral and written communication skills.
