We are seeking a highly motivated and talented PhD candidate to join our team at Swinburne University of Technology. The successful applicant will work on a specific project on the Australian reconciliation movement, developing national community, industry and academic understandings on a wide range of significant reconciliation areas.

The National Centre for Reconciliation Practice is a key national commitment in our current Reconciliation Action Plan, and we are looking for a PhD candidate who will work closely with key industry partners, including Reconciliation Australia.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to develop a research plan in collaboration with the supervisory team, undertake a detailed review of the literature in the field, and work independently to undertake research activities.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Undertaking a detailed review of the literature in the field and developing an understanding of the existing literature and opportunities for new research activities
  • Developing a research plan in collaboration with the supervisory team
  • Data collection
  • Working independently to undertake research activities
  • Preparing written and oral research reports throughout the program to explain research activities and outcomes
  • Preparing and submitting publications from research activities to peer-reviewed journals and conferences
  • Preparing and submitting milestone reports and thesis to meet the requirements of the University's HDR Training Policy
  • Working within a wider multidisciplinary research team that will include end users and industry and researchers and collaborators from across the University
  • Being prepared to participate in group development and research activities and contribute to other projects within the team where it is deemed appropriate by the supervisor

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must have:

  • Analytical thinking, data analysis and critical problem-solving skills
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to work independently
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary research team
  • Evidence of good oral and written communication skills
  • Applicants with publications will be highly regarded
  • Must meet Swinburne's entry requirements for the Doctor of Philosophy
  • Be in a position to commence the PhD candidature in early 2022

It is a genuine occupational requirement that the incumbent must identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander under the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic).
