Position Overview:

  • Exciting opportunity for a Vice Chancellor's Indigenous Doctoral Fellow to pursue a PhD in the STEM disciplines, specifically in Health and Biomedical Sciences.
  • This role is exclusively for candidates of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent.
  • Contract duration: Fixed-term for four years.
  • Compensation: Academic A-B level (starting from AU$90,000 per annum based on experience) plus 17% superannuation and flexible working arrangements.

Role Responsibilities:

The main objective of the VC Indigenous Doctoral Fellow is to engage in research activities aimed at fulfilling the requirements of a PhD aligned with the University's research agenda.

The fellow is expected to achieve all necessary PhD milestones throughout the tenure of the position and to complete their PhD within the designated four-year timeframe.

Additional responsibilities may include involvement in engagement initiatives, delivering lectures and tutorials, evaluating student performance, and managing course-related administrative tasks, all in accordance with the University's quality assurance standards. Up to 10% of the workload may be allocated to activities not directly related to the PhD.

Candidate Profile:

To be considered for this position, candidates must possess:

  • Proof of Aboriginality or confirmation of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage as a mandatory selection criterion.
  • A relevant academic background or equivalent qualifications to gain admission to PhD studies.
  • The ability to work independently while demonstrating a strong commitment to teamwork, including effective collaboration with colleagues, project leaders, and industry stakeholders.
  • Proven capability to meet deadlines, manage diverse workloads, and adapt to shifting priorities as necessary.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must satisfy the criteria for PhD candidature.

Note: This position is designated for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, classified under 'special measures' as per section 12 of the Equal Employment Opportunity Act 2010. Verification of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander heritage is required.

Appointment to this role is contingent upon successfully passing a Working with Children check. Additional background checks will be conducted through an external provider.

About the School:

The School of Health and Biomedical Sciences encompasses three Academic Clusters: Allied Health, Applied Health, and Biomedical Sciences. The School is committed to teaching and research across ten disciplines, including Chinese Medicine, Chiropractic, Exercise Science, Human Biosciences, Laboratory Medicine, Medical Radiations, Nursing, Osteopathy, Pharmacy, and Psychology. Most programs within the School incorporate Work Integrated Learning as a core component of student education, facilitated through partnerships with industry and the University's student-led Health Sciences Clinic.
