Occupational Therapist - Forensic Mental Health Specialist

This role is focused on providing occupational therapy services to individuals within the forensic mental health setting.

The successful candidate will have expertise in working with individuals who have complex needs and a strong understanding of the principles of occupational therapy.

The key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Developing and implementing occupational therapy programs that are tailored to meet the individual needs of clients;
  • Working collaboratively with other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care;
  • Conducting assessments and evaluations to identify areas of strength and weakness and develop targeted interventions;
  • Providing education and support to clients, carers and other stakeholders to promote optimal functioning and well-being;
  • Contributing to the development and maintenance of policies and procedures related to occupational therapy practice within the organisation;
  • Engaging in ongoing professional development to maintain expertise and stay up-to-date with best practice in occupational therapy.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A approved degree in Occupational Therapy recognised for membership of OT Australia – Australian Association of Occupational Therapists and current registration with AHPRA;
  • Highly developed skills in the forensic mental health field, including knowledge and understanding of the needs of mentally ill people and of the issues of care delivery in forensic mental health;
  • Solid conceptual understanding of the theories of occupational performance, including the Model of Human Occupation;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders, including clients, carers, staff and external agencies;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
