Job Title: Head of Compliance, Australia

A unique opportunity has arisen to join the Aon Asia Pacific Law & Compliance team as the Head of Compliance, Australia. This role will lead compliance professionals to support the Aon Australia and Papua New Guinea (PNG) business.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Enable growth by driving compliance, training, monitoring, providing assurance, and managing risks within Aon Australia, liaising across the Asia Pacific region as one team, and supporting Aon's enterprise risk management framework.
  • Manage all compliance duties and responsibilities as they pertain to the Aon Australia and PNG businesses.
  • Work closely with the legal lead in Australia, as well as compliance leads in Asia and New Zealand, and business stakeholders across Aon's three lines of defence.
  • Lead and inspire the Australian compliance team through driving global goals locally applied and ensuring talent is retained and careers are developed via talent management, providing ongoing feedback and review of performance.
  • Maintain Aon's global Policies and relevant local addenda.
  • Drive fact-based progress of compliance programs and their effectiveness, collaborating with global Compliance Operations to find ways to drive efficient reporting and compliance assurance.
  • Oversee the assessment of new laws, regulations, and trends in Australia and PNG and their applicability and implementation to Aon's operations to ensure that all relevant risks are fully identified and managed.
  • Partner with the Chief Risk Officer Asia Pacific and relevant risk team members to maintain APAC's risk management framework as part of Aon's enterprise risk management framework.
  • Support regular risk assessments as part of ERM reporting and statutory requirements.
  • Advising relevant Aon Boards and Risk Committees to satisfy all required corporate governance requirements and drive compliance, influencing change in behaviours where required.
  • Proactively support and advise on required regulatory change programs in response to new regulatory requirements whether initiated globally or locally.
  • Collaborate with the Law and Compliance Department, Aon Business Services, and business leaders to seek new ways of working efficiently and cost-effectively to maintain best-in-class compliance services that are scalable and participating in global change programs as required.
Requirements:
  • Operational compliance management experience with exposure to financial services, including general insurance or insurance broking.
  • Process-oriented with an interest in the use of technology to aid delivery of compliance services in the most effective and scalable manner with fact-based analysis.
  • Tertiary degree or equivalent in law, finance, business, or commerce.
  • Proven ability to manage and motivate a team onshore and offshore.
  • Demonstrated capacity for commercial-oriented problem-solving.
  • Process improvement-oriented, and ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
  • A proven track record in regulatory change in the financial services environment gained with demonstrated experience in regulatory change management.
  • Ability to influence and articulate strategy in a straightforward and amiable manner that encourages partnership and general teamwork across the enterprise.
  • Skilled in drafting succinct, logical, well-explained, and comprehensive decisions and explain complex compliance, regulatory, and legal concepts in plain English for lay audiences.
