Job Description
The Department of Education and Training is seeking Guidance Officers to provide direct support for primary and secondary students' mental health difficulties.
This role involves identifying, supporting and developing therapeutic intervention plans for students with mild to moderate mental health difficulties. It also includes providing advice and counselling on various issues affecting students' wellbeing, including educational, behavioural, vocational, personal, social, family and mental health matters.
The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing safety plans for schools and promoting awareness about mental health and wellbeing within the school community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement therapeutic intervention plans for students with mild to moderate mental health difficulties.
- Provide guidance and support to students, parents and teachers on mental health and wellbeing issues.
- Collaborate with the Student Wellbeing team and other stakeholders to promote a positive school culture and environment.
- Maintain accurate records and data related to the role, including pre- and post-intervention data from students and their families.
Required Skills and Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A completed coursework Masters, majoring in guidance and counselling, or an equivalent qualification.
- General or provisional registration as a psychologist through AHPRA, or an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited four or five year qualification in psychology.
- Current full registration as a teacher in Queensland.
