About This Role

We are seeking a skilled Data Engineer to join our innovative team. The successful candidate will drive the design, development and operation of our enterprise data platform, working closely with the Data Insights team and relevant business SMEs.

As a Data Engineer, you will contribute to lasting and positive changes that shape the future of our cities and communities. It's meaningful, challenging and exciting work.

  • Provide incident and problem resolution for the data platform, ensuring continuous improvement of performance.
  • Implement and maintain ETL processes, collaborating with analytics function to ensure required data and performance.
  • Creation, modification and enhancement of source code, performing quality reviews to ensure efficiency.
  • Maintain professional standards in all areas of the Software Development Life Cycle.
  • Design solutions for increased Automation, Continuous Integration, testability, simplicity, scalability, predictability, efficiency, security and maintainability.
  • Help deliver improved deployment frequencies, faster time to market, lower failure rates and shortened lead time between fixes.
  • Develop and deploy artefacts including views, analytical functions and stored procedures.
  • Continuously monitor platform infrastructure run costs to identify cost reduction opportunities.
Key Requirements

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science or related technical discipline.
  • Expertise in languages like Python, Java, Scala or SQL.
  • In-depth knowledge of relational databases (SQL) and NoSQL databases.
  • Understanding of data warehousing concepts, tools and best practices for storing and processing large datasets.
  • Big Data Technologies: Familiarity with technologies like Spark, Snowflake, BigQuery, along with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms like AWS, Azure or Google Cloud for data storage, processing and deployment.
  • Ability to design efficient and scalable data models and schemas for different data sources and storage systems.
  • Experience working with business leadership to design data solutions that meet business needs.
  • Experience working with large, complex source systems, and working with developers of those systems to dig in and understand the complexities of the data.
