We are seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to join our team as the next Chief of Staff in the Australian Government Department of Defence's Cyber Operations Division. This role is ideal for a strategic thinker with exceptional communication skills who can drive organisational communication, collaborations, and alignment.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing strategic advice to the MAJGEN on current and emerging issues relevant to the COD and the Defence enterprise. They will also advise the MAJGEN and the COD executive leadership team and staff on matters relating to governance, risk, and public sector accountabilities.

  • Provide strategic guidance to the MAJGEN on key issues affecting the COD and Defence;
  • Advising on governance, risk management, and public sector accountability;
  • Undertake internal and external engagement and representation to advance the COD strategic intent and business objectives;
  • Maintain awareness of government priorities and deliver support through media enquiries, ministerial briefs, and cabinet submissions;
  • Oversight and management of the COD office and support staff;

The role involves working closely with the COD Executive team to help plan, administer, and facilitate organisational outcomes and priorities. The successful candidate will be able to work effectively with senior stakeholders across multiple fields to drive results and have a proven ability to achieve results in a Whole of Government setting.

About Our Team

The COD has a blended workforce (APS, ADF, contractors) in excess of 1,000 personnel who support the Defence mission globally. We are looking for an enthusiastic, professional, and experienced candidate who is able to think strategically, set and prioritise busy workloads, identify risks and opportunities, and collaborate effectively in a Whole of Government setting.

Our ideal candidate must have a high level of understanding of governance, risk, compliance, and ministerial acumen as well as a sound understanding of the machinery of Government. While beneficial, there is no direct requirement for a background in ICT or national security.

What We Offer

The estimated annual salary for this position is approximately $140,000 - $170,000 AUD, depending on experience. We offer a range of benefits including flexible working arrangements, access to training and development opportunities, and a supportive team environment.
