Natural Hazards Policy Specialist

Policy professionals with knowledge of natural hazards and planning or research skills are in demand.

The Policy Planning Officer will be working closely with the Resilience and Urban Sustainability Division, conducting research, contributing to policy development, and providing data for evidence-based policy analysis and advice.

**Key Responsibilities:**

  • Conduct straightforward research tasks, analyze and evaluate issues and data to formulate responses that contribute to resolving new and emerging issues.
  • Prepare relevant Departmental documentation such as briefing notes, responses to correspondence, project reports, and legislative drafting instructions.
  • Support senior managers and directors in building partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to enhance engagement, consultation, and negotiation on the team's policy program.
  • Assist staff and managers in managing work performed by external contractors and consultants to achieve project objectives.

**Essential Requirements:**

  • Degree in planning, public policy, or a related field.
  • Experience in providing well-researched and balanced information in high-volume environments with competing priorities and tight timeframes.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team, contributing to project delivery.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
