Industrial Officer Position

We are seeking an experienced Industrial Officer to join our team in Sydney, Australia. As a key member of the industrial relations team, you will be responsible for representing and advocating for members to improve working conditions and defend entitlements.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Workplace Representation: Managing a caseload of workplace issues, providing industrial advice to members, and advocating with employers and before industrial tribunals to ensure that members' entitlements are being enforced.
  • Enterprise Bargaining: Participating in enterprise bargaining negotiations and ensuring compliance with the legislative regime in all aspects of the bargaining process.
  • Representation: Representing members and the Union in collective and individual meetings with employers and peak bodies.
  • Award Matters: Representing members and the Union in Award matters before the Fair Work Commission (and similar).
  • Knowledge Development: Maintaining and developing industrial knowledge across union industries.
  • Additional Duties: Ensuring that the Union's values of equity, diversity, and inclusion are upheld and promoted, and performing other duties associated with ensuring a high standard is maintained to provide assistance to Union members.

Requirements:

  • Passion and Drive: A passion and drive to improve workers' lives and achieving the goals of the Union.
  • Expectation Management: Ability in managing expectations around dispute resolution.
  • Legislative Knowledge: Ability in using legislation, awards, and agreements to enforce members' rights and entitlements.
  • Industrial Relations Environment: A solid knowledge and understanding of the Australian industrial relations environment.
  • Advocacy Experience: Experience in advocacy through the Fair Work Commission or relevant Courts.
  • Representation Experience: Experience in representing members and/or clients in employment-related matters.
  • Communication Skills: Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Teamwork: Ability and willingness to work as part of a team.
  • Union Agenda: Ability to participate in the union's political and social justice agenda.
  • Qualifications: Bachelor of Law (or prior experience as an Industrial Officer).
  • Right of Entry Permits: Right of Entry Permits.
  • Covid-19 Immunisation: Immunisation against COVID-19 or have a medical exemption.
