Job Description

The Queensland Fire Department is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the role of Operations Capability Coordinator. This position is responsible for supporting the development of operational capability in relation to specialized equipment usage and management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate Equipment Management: Oversee the issuing, servicing, testing, and unplanned maintenance of specialized equipment, such as P3 masks, gas detectors, radios, and tablets, in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Engage with Brigades: Collaborate with brigades to coordinate, deliver, and facilitate equipment-related education, including delivery of new asset induction to brigades before operational use.
  • Maintain Inventory and Compliance: Maintain accurate inventory lists for effective equipment management, monitor equipment usage for compliance with asset operating standards and policy, and provide district input into equipment specification requirements.
  • Liaise with External Agencies: Communicate with external agencies related to equipment maintenance, such as manufacturers, suppliers, and service providers, to ensure emergency preparedness and response support.
  • Provide Training and Advice: Offer guidance in the development and evaluation of training materials, guidelines, and procedures to contribute to improved capability outcomes and ensure compliance with applicable legislation and maintenance requirements.
  • Lead Equipment Purchasing and Trials: Oversee equipment purchasing, support trials of new equipment, and provide advice and support to brigades to ensure these activities follow appropriate processes and procedures.
  • Contribute to RFS Capability: Participate in specific equipment initiatives to enhance Rural Fire Service capability and capacity to manage pertinent technical incidents and coordinate procurement processes as needed.
Requirements
  • Attributes and Skills: Possess thorough knowledge of the concepts, strategies, and issues associated with managing rural fire services, particularly in a volunteer environment, and have a sound knowledge of and ability to provide operational leadership at emergency situations using the AIIMS/IMS methodology.
  • Commitment and Availability: Demonstrate a proven commitment to maintaining bushfire competencies and operating in a team environment, with capacity to participate in out-of-hours shift rosters during disaster operations.
  • Travel and Deployment: Be willing to travel and work within the area of responsibility, with potential for intrastate and/or interstate deployment and travel.
Additional Information

This is a day work position that may require flexible hours of work to meet functional demands, including working at night on weekends as part of the role. Officers appointed to this position will participate in a personal professional development program in conjunction with their supervisor.
