Instrument Chemist Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Instrument Chemist to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to work with the latest technology in a state-of-the-art laboratory.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring all activities are conducted according to quality procedures, supervising and training laboratory staff, prioritizing daily workload, operating and maintaining instrumentation, reporting results in accordance with quality work instructions, complying with laboratory QC and HSE requirements, and preparing standards for sample analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure quality procedures are followed at all times
  • Supervise and train laboratory staff to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge
  • Prioritize daily workload to meet deadlines and achieve goals
  • Operate and maintain instrumentation to ensure accurate and reliable results
  • Report results in accordance with quality work instructions
  • Comply with laboratory QC and HSE requirements
  • Prepare standards for sample analysis

Requirements
  • Excellent attention to detail, communication, and organizational skills
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in a commercial laboratory
  • Previous experience operating GC/FID, GCMS, or LCMSMS required
  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent (Honours and Chemistry disciplines advantageous)
  • Competent in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Working knowledge of organic sample preparation techniques for environmental samples
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
