Medical Laboratory Specialist

The role of a medical laboratory specialist is vital in ensuring the efficient processing of specimens and accurate reporting of results to healthcare services and doctors.

  • Perform routine diagnostic tests, prepare tissue samples using various techniques under scientific supervision, and operate automated equipment for optimal performance.
  • Conduct quality control testing for each assay performed, review, document, and implement results according to departmental policy and guidelines.
  • Maintain automated and manual instrumentation, ensuring continuous performance and completing relevant documentation, including reporting and escalation to senior staff.
  • Stay updated with current scientific knowledge through regular training, journal reviews, and attendance at internal and external continuing education activities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and supervisors to identify areas for improvement and implement workflow enhancements for continuous laboratory improvement and efficiency.
  • Participate in quality assurance programs for both internal and external evaluations.
  • Assist with specimen reception duties, manage stock inventory, and ensure continuity of testing and service provisions as directed.
  • Document incidents or complaints on Q-pulse and escalate to senior staff accordingly.
  • Accept and report results, including negative outcomes, with scientific supervision and expertise.
