Human Rights Watch is seeking two interns for the Sydney office to support the Advocacy and Development and Outreach Departments.
The ideal candidate will be available for a minimum of two days and maximum of three days a week, for three months beginning in mid-August 2024. The internship may be extended.
Responsibilities:- Conduct research and fact-checking on domestic and international human rights issues in Australia.
- Assist with the preparation of published materials, such as op-eds, dispatches, and press releases.
- Monitor press coverage and update lists.
- Support outreach tasks regarding human rights in the Asia region, with a focus on Australia.
- Use databases and assist with event planning.
Interns must be currently enrolled students for the duration of the internship. This position is best suited for individuals interested in interning in a large, well-organized, international non-profit organization. Applicants should be well-organized, self-motivated, and reliable with a strong interest in international human rights.
Experience with fundraising, media, social media, government relations, event planning, and Salesforce would be beneficial. Computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office) are strongly preferred.
Applicants must possess valid work authorization in Australia for the duration of their internship.
Benefits:Interns will be reimbursed up to $15 per day for lunch and up to $20 per day for transportation. Students may be able to arrange academic credit for this internship.
