Ampersand International is a leading organisation that supports NSW government departments in their strategic communication efforts. We are currently seeking a highly skilled Strategic Communications Advisor to join our team.

About the Role

The primary purpose of this role is to provide expert advice and support to business partners in sharing important information with the department, while maintaining a positive reputation. You will contribute to the development and implementation of proactive and reactive media, social media, and public relations strategies.

This position involves:

  • Managing media monitoring and reporting to support the implementation of media and public affairs strategies;
  • Assisting with the execution of media and public affairs strategies, ensuring timely and appropriate responses to media and stakeholder enquiries;
  • Providing professional assistance with public affairs, processing media enquiries, liaising extensively with portfolio agencies, preparing and issuing media statements;
  • Contributing to event management preparation for public appearances and writing material for public speaking by directors and senior executives;
  • Supporting the evaluation of media coverage, identifying opportunities and risks, providing advice, briefing notes, and other material for senior staff and the Minister;
  • Collecting and communicating information on current affairs and recent developments impacting the transport portfolio;
  • Assisting with developing effective public affairs and media policy and procedures.
About You

We are looking for an experienced professional who has:

  • Experience in journalism, media relations, or public relations in a complex environment;
  • Demonstrated experience in providing administrative support with minimal supervision;
  • Demonstrated strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to plan, prioritise, and complete work within allocated timeframes;
  • At least 2 years of experience in a business administration role.

You should also possess:

  • Experience in managing a mailbox;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, especially Excel, Word, and SharePoint;
  • Exposure to working in a government department.
