We are Shell Energy, a leading energy retailer in Australia, and we are seeking an experienced Project Grid Manager to join our Strategy and Portfolio Development team in Melbourne.

Salary: $120,000 - $160,000 per annum

About the Role:

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the network connections process, obtaining all relevant connection approvals, and driving the progression of Connection Agreements through to execution and Offer to Connect for large-scale dispatchable assets under development by Shell Energy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and work alongside the development team to drive the network connections process to obtain all relevant connection approvals, and drive the progression of Connection Agreements through to execution and Offer to Connect, and within agreed timeframes;
  • Prepare and present internally the approvals and connection process relevant to NSP's/DTSO's within the relevant project location;
  • Act as the lead on generator performance standard negotiations and NSP requirements to facilitate the registration and commissioning process for new projects;
  • Management of grid connection deliverables and scoping of tasks required to be conducted by grid consultants;
  • Management of BESS OEM's and Inverter OEMs to procure all relevant data needed for power systems modelling and navigation of generator connection processes;
  • Evaluate project proposals from a power systems and electrical engineering perspective;
  • Monitor upstream market opportunities and projects eligibility e.g. CIS, LTESA, system strength services;
  • Work with and maintain relationships with AEMO, NSPs, OEMs and grid-connection consultants; and assist the team in identifying suitable project locations for portfolio development that align with business strategy.
  • Monitor upcoming changes to the network to inform commercial decisions through conducting network assessments and monitoring market opportunities;
  • Responsible for modelling inputs and results with grid consultants and their use of modelling tools (PSSE, PSCAD) to ensure project development until financial close.

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience within the Australian energy sector and knowledge of the power generation competitive landscape and market rules, regulations and players;
  • Experience in connection application, generator registration and negotiation of generator performance standards;
  • Significant knowledge of the grid-connection process, AEMO, NSP and DTSO requirements;
  • Experience performing power flow analysis, transient analysis, and fault current analysis on high voltage power system is required;
  • A detailed understanding of the analytical tools/software used in the industry - PSCAD, PSSE and PowerFactory modelling experience required;
  • Extensive experience in the power or renewable energy industry;
  • A proven track record of obtaining connection approvals from AEMO;
  • Demonstrated stakeholder management capabilities, including the ability to be tactful and sensitive and ensure the appropriate tone, method and frequency of communication;
  • Experience in sourcing, building, and managing strong industry and customer relationships;
  • The ability to lead, engage and collaborate effectively across multi-functional teams and interface with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, based in various locations;
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
