Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Engagement Specialist

We are proud to work in partnership with the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) to deliver Local Area Coordination Services across various locations.
This full-time, fixed-term role is located in our Canberra office and offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with disability.
About the RoleAs a Local Area Coordinator (LAC), you will be the heartbeat of the NDIA in your local community, working with people with disability and their families to access and navigate the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
You will connect with people from all walks of life, assisting them to access relevant information about the NDIS and develop plans that meet their goals, needs, and wishes.
Your expertise will also extend to supporting those deemed not eligible for the scheme, linking them with natural supports and community connections.
Key Responsibilities- Assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, families, carers, and communities to access NDIS information and support;
- Develop and implement plans that meet the needs and goals of participants;
- Provide linkages and supports to individuals not eligible for the NDIS scheme;
- Build and maintain relationships with government, community groups, organisations, and peak bodies;
- Represent Feros Care positively, promoting its values and capabilities within the community.
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- To identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander;
- Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures;
- A genuine desire to empower First Nation people with disability;
- Solid understanding of Windows applications, mobile technology, and remote working;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders;
- A person-centred approach to outcomes, confidentiality, and professional integrity.
