About Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES)

We provide fire, rescue, and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland.

The department's purpose is to help the community prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events.

Purpose of the Role

Our team delivers proactive and reactive media and social media management to ensure timely and accurate public safety information 24/7. In addition, we provide support to senior executives, counsel on issues, and reputation management, and develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.

Main Responsibilities

  • We supervise a team of media professionals in delivering timely and quality media, social media, and public information services.
  • We work closely with other supervisors to manage daily operations and functions of our team.

Key Requirements

  • A minimum C Class Driver's Licence (non-restricted).
  • Qualifications and over seven years' experience in communications, public relations, or journalism within a complex environment.

Accountabilities

  • We supervise community warnings and critical public information.
  • We oversee community safety and preparedness campaigns and strategies.
  • We provide specialist advice on strategic media issues, crisis management, and disaster response.
  • We prepare and approve all material published by our team.
  • We develop and implement a comprehensive media and public information training program.
  • We establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
