Ipswich Flexible School is a Catholic educational institution in the Edmund Rice tradition, serving approximately 100 students. As part of a network of 22 Flexible Schools across Australia, we offer a full-time and multi-year secondary education program for young people who have disengaged from mainstream schooling. Our students may present with complex education and social needs, and our teaching and learning practices are designed to be flexible and innovative, incorporating vocational planning and social connectedness.

About the Role

We are seeking an energetic and creative individual to join our existing team. This is a continuing, full-time position, commencing as soon as negotiated.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver Australian curriculum with a focus on literacy and numeracy skills for students who have a history of disengagement from schooling, typically working at an upper primary or middle school level.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the school's objectives and planning.
  • Support the establishment and maintenance of a supportive school environment.
  • Collaborate with an expert adventure-based learning coordinator to deliver group programs.
  • Emphasize integrated learning, with a focus on transferable skills from the Human Capabilities Framework.
  • Contribute to accountability processes, including reporting, individual personal learning plans, and requirements for NCCD.
  • Work in a multi-disciplinary, inter-disciplinary supportive learning team.
  • Teach in small class groups.
About You
  • Bachelor of Education or similar, with current QCT registration.
  • Genuine interest and experience in developing and implementing a range of learning choices to meet the diverse needs and learning styles of students, supporting positive educational and social outcomes.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to relate to work colleagues, students, and parents in a cross-cultural environment, particularly in building relationships with students at risk.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and in an integrated manner as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Commitment to participate in critical reflection around working together under the principles of Respect, Safe and Legal, Honesty, and Participation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of working within QCAA/QCEC/EREA requirements, accountabilities, and processes.
  • Current Queensland Driver's Licence.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (TAE40116 CERTIFICATE).
  • Experience teaching QCAA Short Courses and Applied Subjects, VET, or in a flexible learning environment.
  • Skills, training, and qualifications in Trauma-Informed Practice.
  • Outdoor Education experience and qualifications.
  • Design Technology.
