The role of the Environmental Sustainability Specialist is critical to supporting the state's goal of sustainable development. This position involves providing a range of services under relevant legislation, including assessment and compliance activities.
Specialists will be located in one of our specialised business centres, focusing on a particular sector such as minerals mining, coal mining, petroleum and gas, or industry and development. They will carry out assessments of environmental risks associated with applications. Compliance officers will respond to incidents and complaints, visit high-risk sites to check on businesses' environmental performance, and help license holders understand their environmental obligations.
This opportunity allows you to contribute to the department's mission and work collaboratively with colleagues across the state. We offer a range of roles within the Environmental Services division, with various locations throughout Queensland.
To succeed in this role, you will require a university degree in environmental management or a related field. You must also possess excellent communication and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct environmental risk assessments and provide recommendations for mitigation strategies
- Develop and implement compliance programs to ensure businesses meet environmental regulations
- Respond to incidents and complaints, and investigate non-compliance issues
- Collaborate with stakeholders to identify opportunities for sustainable development
