Environmental Sustainability Specialist

The role of Environmental Sustainability Specialist is crucial in ensuring the successful delivery of major linear infrastructure projects. This position will work closely with various project teams, including Engineering Design, Project Development, Asset Management, Regulatory, Procurement, Finance, Environment and Land teams.
The key responsibility of this role is to develop and implement strategies that achieve EIS (Environment Impact Statement) approval and property acquisitions for major new transmission lines. The successful candidate will be accountable for delivering program outcomes in line with the program of works.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Tertiary qualifications in environmental planning/management/science or engineering;
- Qualifications in project management (advanced diploma desirable);
- Professional experience as a program manager or proven equivalent experience related to infrastructure projects;
- Demonstrated experience in preparing and delivering planning and environmental approvals for major linear infrastructure (e.g., rail, road, gas, electricity).
In addition to the above-mentioned skills and qualifications, the ideal candidate should have:
- Proven experience managing and delivering land access and/or environmental approvals for state significant linear projects (e.g., transmission, distribution, water pipes, gas lines, roads, rail);
- Strong understanding and experience with NSW, Victorian, and Commonwealth legislation, regulatory frameworks, and procedures governing property access and planning approvals, including compulsory acquisitions;
- Sigificant experience effectively managing internal and external stakeholders;
- Proven ability to manage a team of technical specialists and professional staff;
- Experience in contract management;
- Experience leading multiple teams simultaneously;
- Highly skilled in negotiating project scope, cost, schedule, and risk with contractors.
