About the Role

As a Youth Officer with the NSW Department of Communities and Justice, you will play a vital role in supporting young people in custody to reintegrate back into society.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  • Supervising young people in custody and ensuring their needs are met on a daily basis
  • Responding to challenging situations in a calm and professional manner
  • Maintaining a safe and secure environment for young people and staff within the centre
  • Proactively avert risk and solve problems
  • Being a positive role model who reinforces boundaries
  • Working in accordance with relevant department legislation, policies, and procedures
  • Fostering strong relationships with young people and colleagues
  • Communicating effectively with others
  • Remain calm under pressure
  • Enjoy working as part of a team
  • Facilitating programs to develop skills of young people
  • Managing conflict in high-pressure situations
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must:

  • Meet citizenship or residency requirements
  • Possess a minimum Provisional 2 NSW driver's licence
  • Hold a National Background Police Check
  • Have NSW Working with Children Check Clearance
  • Possess or willingness to obtain 'Provide First Aid Certificate' (HLTAID003)
  • Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills
  • Show ability to work in a team environment
  • Pass Medical and Fitness Assessment
  • Complete 5 weeks of full-time training to prepare you for entry-level duties

We offer a competitive salary of $65,000 - $83,500 per annum, plus superannuation, paid annual leave, and sick leave. The estimated salary range is based on the NSW public sector salary scale.
