Job Title:

We are seeking an ambitious and forward-thinking professional to lead our commercial development initiatives. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for translating academic research into commercially viable propositions that have a clear potential to create a real-world impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Innovation Discovery Team and the Investment & Licensing team to develop a package of information that can be used to produce commercially compelling business plans, valuations, and partner due-diligence activities.
  • Responsible for communicating with inventors the analysis and decisions made in the Innovation Factory about inventions.
  • Manage a diverse portfolio of commercial projects, prioritizing tasks, tracking progress, and reporting outcomes.
  • Critical assessment of technology, unmet need, value proposition, competitive landscape, and market opportunity.
  • Leading market research, IP, and commercial due diligence to ensure market fit and appropriate IP protection.
  • Development of commercial project plans, including identification of funding sources, industry/commercial partners, advisors, and consultants.

Requirements:

  • Higher degree in science/engineering or equivalent related subject.
  • Proven scientific and commercial experience gained within a science/engineering sector.
  • Curious and up-to-date with innovative technology developments and market trends in the science/engineering sector.
  • Analytical and detail-oriented thinker able to identify commercial potential and judge impact.
  • Used to manage multiple projects, deliver objectives, and meet targets within agreed timelines.
  • Great interpersonal and stakeholder management skills – able to build strong and long-lasting collaborative relationships.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
